Workshop - Aleid Channing
In this collaboration, Lindsey showed Aleid her original artwork ‘Workshop’. Aleid has a condition which causes her to have double vision. She described what she saw in Lindsey’s original painting and Lindsey painted a second piece to describe her response.
Lindsey’s original artwork
Lindsey’s workshop 50 x 50 cm oil on canvas
This painting is a set of Allen keys hanging from a nail on a circular key ring with red fob.
The keys occupy the left of the canvas whilst the right hand side of the painting is largely an empty rough textured wall with hints of shadows in light creamy greys.
The keys emerge from a dark brown rectangular shape in the top left of the painting and are hanging from a nail on a ring with a red fob which lies just off left of centre. Each of the key legs, which are rectangular L-shaped and of varying sizes, are painted loosely and a dark browns and taupes and occupy the centre and lower left of the image.
Aleid's interpretation
Aleid’s workshop 50 x 50 cm oil on canvas
Aleid’s condition means that she has double vision and often sees two images superimposed on top of one another, the second image is usually set off at an angle. When she saw Lindsey’s original painting, she saw two sets of Allen keys.
This is a painting of two sets of Allen keys, one set as described in the original painting, the other at 45 degrees occupying the top right quadrant of the canvas. On the left of the painting, the keys emerge from a dark brown rectangular shape in the top left and are hanging from a nail on a ring with a red fob which lies just off left of centre. Each of the key legs, which are rectangular L-shaped and of varying sizes, are painted loosely and a dark browns and taupes and occupy the centre and lower left of the image.
The top right-hand quadrant of the canvas is occupied by a replica at 45° of the images of the image to its left.
The bottom quite right quadrant of the canvas is empty and the textured background surface is loosely painted in muted warm dove grey and coral.
