Workshop - Samantha Leftwich
In this collaboration, Lindsey showed Samantha her original artwork ‘Workshop’. Sam has a vivid imagination. She described what she saw in Lindsey’s piece and Lindsey painted a second piece to describe her response.
Lindsey’s original artwork
Lindsey’s workshop 50 x 50 cm oil on canvas
This painting is a set of Allen keys hanging from a nail on a circular key ring with red fob.
The keys occupy the left of the canvas whilst the right hand side of the painting is largely an empty rough textured wall with hints of shadows in light creamy greys.
The keys emerge from a dark brown rectangular shape in the top left of the painting and are hanging from a nail on a ring with a red fob which lies just off left of centre. Each of the key legs, which are rectangular L-shaped and of varying sizes, are painted loosely and a dark browns and taupes and occupy the centre and lower left of the image.
Samantha’s Interpretation
Samantha’s workshop 50 x 50 cm oil on canvas
When Samantha looked at Lindsey’s original artwork she saw a pistol and spider. Lindsey has captured this. A dark strip on the left of the painting occupies an eighth of the surface of the painting and runs 2/3 of the way down the left side of the canvas. A pistol emerges form this dark brown black shape, painted side on with the barrel reaching the top of the painting, and the trigger intermingling with the key ring fob which lies left of top centre. The red fob has become the body of tarantula like spider whose body it’s bulbous with legs that are rusty red and orange. They intermingle with the alun keys which hang in the below reaching nearly to the bottom of the image. The background is duck egg blue, Sam’s favourite colour.
