Workshop - Anne Conduit
In this collaboration, Lindsey showed Anne her original artwork ‘Workshop’. Anne has an eye condition that means she is unable to see fine detail and her colour vision is affected. Anne described what she saw in Lindsey’s artwork and Lindsey painted a second piece to describe her response.
Lindsey’s original artwork
Lindsey’s 50 x 50 cm oil on canvas
This painting is a set of Allen keys hanging from a nail on a circular key ring with a dark red fob.
The keys occupy the left of the canvas whilst the right hand side of the painting is largely an empty rough textured wall with hints of shadows in light creamy greys.
The keys emerge from a dark brown rectangular shape in the top left of the painting and are hanging from a nail on a ring with a red fob which lies just off left of centre. Each of the key legs, which are rectangular L-shaped and of varying sizes, are painted loosely and a dark browns and taupes and occupy the centre and lower left of the image.
Anne’s interpretation
Anne’s workshop 50 x 50 cm oil on canvas
A dark strip occupying and eighth of the canvas runs down the left hand side of the painting stopping just below the midline. In the top centre there are two rings against a yellow background. A large bright red circle representing the key fob lies just off centre, from which the legs of the Allen keys extend down towards the bottom of the canvas forming a series of stripes. These stripes are picked up in the background of the painting and form a rhythm of vertical lines in greys and lilacs across the right hand side of the painting.
