Iomani - Samantha Leftwich
In this collaboration, Lindsey showed Samantha her original artwork ‘Iomani’. Samantha has a vivid imagination. She described what she saw in Lindsey’s piece and Lindsey painted a second piece to describe her response.

This painting depicts the interior of a village house in Cyprus at dusk. We are looking through french doors with a with a light voile curtain appearing as a strip down the right hand side of the canvas. To the left this strip is echoed by a dark wall A red tiled floor leads the eye into the room and is interrupted by dust moats, a shaft of sunlight creating a white patch in the foreground.
The furniture is pushed aside and covered in dust sheets, possibly a cupboard or trunk forming a ghostly cube centre right. In the top left quadrant of the picture, a window on the back wall is being enlarged and has yet to be completed. It appears as a dark vertical rectangle in the background wall of pearly creamy grey.

When Samantha looked at Lindsey’s original artwork, she saw a clown’s face in the details of the room. Lindsey has captured this and the dark strip on the left hand side of this painting echoed with a lilac stripe on the right hand side of the painting frames a clown’s face. with floor plane and sunlight patches in the foreground forming a red crescent, appearing as a grinning clown’s mouth with the background window as one large eye. The dark rectangular ambiguous cube right of centre right hints a clowns wig.
