Chorioretinal Coloboma
Coloboma means that part of one or more structures inside an unborn baby's eye does not fully develop during pregnancy. This underdeveloped area is normally in the lower part of the eye and it can vary in size. Colobomas of the iris can cause glare and light sensitivity. It can also affect the structures behind the iris (zonules) which hold the lens in place. This alters the shape of the lens and affects focusing of vision. Chorioretinal colobomas cause areas of the vision to be missing.
