Scanning

Samantha Leftwich

“Scanning” - a blurred bright yellow/white line of light which starts from the bottom left corner and moves across to the top right corner. The background is a dark brownish black colour. The light is more intense in the left corner and starts to disperse as it moves across the canvas. It was taken from a car on the motorway at night.

This photo represents the bright white light I see numerous times a day, particularly when moving between areas of brighter lighting conditions to darker lighting conditions and vice versa. The light moves from my left corner of my eye up to the right top corner light the light on a photocopier scanner. The left corner of intense light in the photo reminds me of the uncomfortable feeling I get when I see the bright light scanning.
