Night Horrors
Charles Bonnet Syndrome
Melanie Shee
The two mist blowing animal type /gargoyles, shown in this image, was the first detailed visual hallucination (Charles Bonnet Syndrome) I experienced in when waking during the night in the pitch black. Four nights later the repeat simple patterns (The Awakenings series) resumed.
Ironically I had watched The Poltergeist the evening before, so pinched myself to ensure it wasn't a dream. Since then, I have re-watched it and I can report there is no gargoyles in The Poltergeist!
I knew it had to be related to my eyes as the only explanation. It did freak me out initially but next day I read as much as possible on Charles Bonnet Syndrome, so gained an understanding of what was happening. I still find it fascinating.
